To promote the education of and interest in pastel as a fine art medium and set standards of excellence in its use in the state of Massachusetts, as well as throughout the country.
The Central Mass Pastel Society was started January 1st, 2019 by a group of pastel artists in Massachusetts that recognized the need for locally hosted workshops and pastel related events.
a. Coordinating artist run workshops and classes available to members and non-members.
b. Holding local, regional, and national exhibits and promotional pastel related events.
c. Networking with art museums, schools and fellow pastel societies with the focus on gaining the proper recognition for pastel painting, as well as promoting that pastel painting be offered as a category in mixed media exhibits and events.
d. Cultivating a supportive network amongst pastel artists that encourages growth, learning and participation in local, regional, national and international exhibits and events.
e. Creating a repository for information on all things related to pastel painting, including but not limited to; technique, materials and technology related to artistic endeavors.
f. Promotion of some of the garnered information to the general public to generate further interest in pastel painting.
g. Operating without financial gain, or profit of the board, individual members, directors, or anyone directly and/or indirectly involved with Central Mass Pastel Society (CMPS). CMPS’s financial objective is to run within the legal budgetary constraints needed to successfully run as an organization of a not-for profit nature.
