Diana is an accomplished, full-time, professional, award-winning artist known nationally and internationally for her pastels focusing on a wide range of photorealistic subjects. She is recognized for her breathtaking sky movements and nautical detailing to her recent series of nostalgia pastels. A native of Pittsburgh, PA now residing in Raleigh, NC, she is a Business College graduate, retiring from an Administrative position 30 years ago to pursue her love of art. Predominately, self-taught, she works in many mediums, but found by accident, that working in soft pastels is her most expressive, finding her own pathway to expression. She fell in love with the immediacy of rich color that pastels present, and discovered her color sense improved because color variety is much more evident with pastels than with other mediums. Diana has earned Signature Status with Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of NC, and the Southeastern Pastel Society, as well. She is basically a studio artist now after many years of both plein air and studio relying on her photographed subjects. In her studio, the photos bring her back to the original site and she begins sketching on her preferred choice of paper, Uart 600 Grade which captures her sky impressions easily and accepts her blending stroke technique to capture movements in her landscapes. She has been focusing on vintage items in her country-filled home for the past few years which bring back many memories of simpler times painted in pastels. |
